Enabling Encryption in Mac OSX
If you are running Mac OS X , this is how you can enable encryption. First, open "System Preferences" in the Apple menu at the top-right corner of the screen. |
Then, select "Security" to access FileVault encryption settings. |
First, if you've never set a Master Password for your computer, click "Set Master Password." As the instructions note, this password will allow you to access your files if you forget your account password. Be aware that if you lose your account password and your Master Password, your data will be lost. Then click "Turn On FileVault" to encrypt your home directory. When the process completes, anything stored in your user's home directory (such as the folders Desktop, Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, etc.) will only be accessible to you. |
