Connecting your computer to ResNet is easy. Just follow the guide below and you'll be browsing the web in no time at all.
First
Make sure you have everything you need to get online.
Check to make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements and has a wired or wireless network card installed. If you have a wired network card, be sure you have a network cable; a phone cable will not work.
Have your both your Campus ID/password and your U. Maine System e-mail username/password ready. If you don't know these, you can get them from the Computer Center Help Desk (located in the 24-hour computer lab) during regular business hours.
Second
Make the Connection.
If you're using a wired network card, plug one end of your network cable into the card. Plug the other end into an available data jack in your residence hall room. The jacks are usually located in a box together with your phone jack and your cable TV jack. Data outlets are usually labeled Data A / Data B or DA / DB.
If you're using a wireless card, check out the Wireless Networking page for instructions on how to connect to the wireless network.
Finally...
Register Your Computer.
Once you're connected to the wired or wireless network, open a web browser and you'll automatically be redirected to the Online Registration page. After following the instructions there, installing our free Symantec antivirus software, and agreeing to the Terms of Service, you will be added to those authorized to use the UMF network.
If you were on the campus network last year, you must register again to restore your connection.
Problems?
We Can Help.
If you encounter problems during registration or need help installing your network card, we can give you a hand. Head on over to the Service Request page to make an appointment with a Computer Center technician.
