As with anything technology related, there some minimum requirements you must meet in order for us to support your connection to the network. Be aware that we are unable to offer support for any systems that do not meet the requirements below.
In addition to the requirements below, Windows-based PCs are required to have UMF's Symantec AntiVirus installed.
Windows-based PCs
- Windows 2000, XP, or Vista
- A wired or wireless network interface card
- A Cat-5, 5e, or 6 ethernet cable (if you want to use wired networking)
Apple Computers
- Mac OS X v10.1 or greater
- A wired or wireless network interface card
- A Cat-5, 5e, or 6 ethernet cable (if you want to use wired networking)
NOTE: Your computer probably has a network card installed or built into it already. You can tell by looking for either a wired network port or a wireless connection icon on your computer screen.
If you have a wired network card, you will see a jack on your computer (probably on the back) that looks like the ethernet port on the right:
The ethernet port on the right is a bit wider than a standard modem/phone jack, which is shown on the left.
Most computers sold now have a wired/ethernet networking port already installed.
Most laptops (and even some desktops) now also have a wireless card built in. If you're not sure, look for one of the icons below on your screen.

The icon on the right is the Windows XP wireless signal strength icon. If you have an internal wireless card installed, you will see this icon to the left of your system clock in the Windows system tray on the task bar.
The icon on the left is the Mac OS X wireless signal strength icon. If you have an internal wireless card installed, you will see this icon to the left of your system clock in the OS X menu bar.
