ResNet Wired and Wireless Access
Wired and wireless networking are provided free to students, staff, and faculty on campus. There is no fee to access these services.
ResNet provides one network port per person per residence hall room. While we allow students to register an unlimited number of devices for use on the network, students are only allowed one physical connection per person. Hubs, switches, routers, and wireless access points are all prohibited on campus.
Wireless access is available to all students, staff, and faculty free of charge.
Dial-up Accounts
Dial-up accounts are provided free to every student, staff, and faculty member at UMF. You are allowed 100 hours per month of usage to any of the modem pools run by UNET in the state of Maine.
In the event that you use your entire allotment of 100 hours, you will not be able to connect via dial up until the midnight on the first day of the following month.
Printing
If you've ever bought ink for a home printer,
you know just how expensive it can be. We'd love
to offer unlimited, free printing to everyone.
Unfortunately, the cost of maintenance is just
too much.
Because of this, we do charge a small, per-page free for printing. The fee has been calculated so that we break even on toner, paper, and other supplies used to maintain our printers.

Equipment Loaning
The Computer Center makes available many
different pieces of computer equipment for
student, staff, and faculty usage. Items include
Apple and Dell laptops, Sony, Panasonic and
Canon Digital Video Cameras, Kodak, Sony, Digital Still Cameras and various other items.Loans can be made by visiting the eCampus Equipment Reservation (Campus ID Req.) utility.
Equipment loans are free to all students, staff, and faculty - though returning an item late results in a $15.00 per day late fee.
H: Drive (Network Storage)
As a student, staff, or faculty member of the University, you are given a personal space on the network to store files and publish web pages. This space is protected and only available to you when you are logged into eCampus. You are allotted several megabytes of space for storage of personal documents.
Anything you store in your H: Drive is backed up nightly along with the rest of our server backups, so you can rest assured your data is safe.
Mini Courses
We offer a number of free computer training courses throughout the year. If you are a staff, faculty, or student at UMF, you may take as many classes as you'd like free of charge.
If you'd like to sign up for a class, stop by the Help Desk in the Computer Center.
Mini courses require the use of your Campus ID (formerly called Novell) and Password and, thus, are not open to those outside of the UMF community.
Enrollment is limited to 20, and you must sign up for the class you wish to attend at least 48 hours in advance. All classes will be held in the computer center, room 102.
Faculty Members: Faculty may have any of the offered classes taught to their students. The faculty member must be present for these sessions. Specialty courses can be arranged provided we are given ample notification and clearly articulated goals which we can base a course around. Please consult with a professional staffer at least eight weeks before your desired date.
