Duplex Printing on Imagistics Printers

As noted on our Power Conservation Recommendations page, you can save money and energy by using the duplex (two-sided) printing feature on our campus Imagistics copier/printers. (You can do this on some other network printers as well, but the ones that can do it on campus are primarily the Imagistics.)

First, if you’re not sure whether your department has an Imagistics printer, or if it’s currently networked for use as a printer, check the Imagistics Setup page on eCampus. If your department’s printer has been set up for network printing, you should see a download link for an automatic installer. If your department has an Imagistics but it doesn’t have an automatic installer on eCampus, it’s probably not connected to the network, but it may be possible to have it connected. For more information, or if the automatic installer doesn’t work for your computer, contact the Help Desk at x7300.

Once you have the Imagistics printer set up on your computer, follow these instructions to set all jobs to print duplex by default:

1. Open the Printer Control Panel by selecting “Printers and Faxes” from the Start Menu.

2. Right-click on the Imagistics printer that you want to set to duplex, and then select Properties.

3. On the Properties window that opens, click Printing Preferences.

4. Depending on your Imagistics model, the Printer Preferences window will have a setting that says either “Duplex” or “Document Style.” Set Duplex to “Long Edge” or set Document Style to “2-Sided (Book Style).”

5. If the Duplex or Document Style setting is unavailable or greyed out, you may need to change one additional setting on certain Imagistics models. To do so, go back to the Printer Properties page and select the Configuration tab. Check the “Duplex Module” box, click OK, and then return to step 4.

If you only want to certain jobs to print two-sided, you can leave the default setting as one-sided, then just enable duplex when you print.  To do so, when you click Print for that document, click the Properties button in the print window (usually to the right of the printer name) and change the Document Style option there to two-sided.  (If the option is grayed out, be sure you’ve enabled the Duplex module following the steps above.)
