Gmail Help
These instructions pertain only to the newer U. Maine System email (launched in 2009), which is accessed online through the U. Maine system Gmail web interface. While it is possible to download Gmail using software such as Outlook or Entourage, we strongly encourage users to switch to the web interface. It has more advanced features, and using it ensures that you won’t lose your email if your computer hard drive fails. Also, the campus will stop supporting Outlook for staff/faculty once all users have been migrated.
These instructions do not apply to older mail.maine.edu accounts, which are accessed through the Horde web interface. For help with those accounts, check our Horde E-mail Help pages.
- Comprehensive Gmail help, direct from Google.
(Also available by clicking the Help link in the top right corner of the Gmail web interface.) - As of Summer 2009, all student accounts have been moved to Gmail, so there are no instructions for student migration. Though students can still use an e-mail program such as Outlook, Entourage, etc. to download their Google mail — see “Other Ways to Access Gmail” on the Gmail help site — we strongly encourage everyone to use the web interface.
