Do I have to buy a Laptop to register for classes? No. Not at all! While computers are an important component of eduction in the modern classroom, it is not a requirement. Buying a UMF EXCEL laptop offers the most value and service for parents and students. We service the laptops we sell, train users to maximize their investment, and offer personalized support. On-campus computer repair services are only available for EXCEL laptops. We will suggest local vendors, training facilities and service providers upon your request. The Computer Center Help Desk is available for basic computer, application and connection questions. You can get onto our network NON-EXCEL student laptop or desktop owners should visit the RESNET web site (http://computercenter.umf.maine.edu/resnet/) and use the online registration or make an appointment to have a UMF technician configure your system. Hardware Requirements Mac's and PC's are both used here at UMF. Minimum on-campus computer requirements are found here. Microsoft Office is the campus supported office suite Whether you use Mac or PC, MS Office will smooth your communications with professors, staff, and other students. MS Office XP Standard Edition includes MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and it is available with CD and an academic license for about $99 from University Computer Connection at 1-800-261-5543. |
